Philippines has the slowest and poorest LTE service in the world- survey

Contrary to the advertisements of major telecommunication companies in the country like Globe Telecom and Smart Communications Inc., boasting LTE mobile speed of up to 50mbps, the Philippines has the poorest and slowest LTE (Long Term Evolution) service in the world according to an international survey conducted by OpenSignal. 

The said survey was done by the said group based on response by 6 million users using the OpenSignal app downloadable in Google Play and App Store with LTE signal. The survey was based on two  metrics: download speed, and the proportion of time spent with LTE access. Below is the summary of the survey entitled State of LTE 2014.

Download Speed Comparison:

Australia has the fastest average LTE speeds in the world obtaining a score of 24.5mbps download speed, with the USA and the Philippines with just 5.3mbps download speed coming in the slowest of our qualifying countries. 

Claro Brazil are the fastest LTE network in the world, averaging an exceptionally fast 27.8Mbps – although their poor ‘Time on LTE’ performance shows that the roll-out is far from complete.

Globe Telecom is faster than Smart Telecom in download speed with 6.3mbps download speed versus 4.3mbps download speed.
 

The USA networks uniformly perform poorly for speed – with Metro PCS recording the slowest speeds of all eligible networks, possibly a result of their small spectrum allocation, which uses a 5MHz band while most US carriers use 20MHz.

Time on LTE

South Korea has the best performance with users having  access to LTE 91% of the time.

Philippines has the worst performance with users having  access to LTE just 38% of the time.
    
Smart Communications Inc. beat Globe Telecom in this area. (46% versus 38%).
