
Microsoft Lync presence not updating

computer might be conflicting with the default Instant messaging
application. Since Microsoft Outlook’s calendar must be synced with
Microsoft Lync’s status, a non-Microsoft / third party instant messaging
application would really your Microsoft Lync presence not updating. So for us to fix this, we need to modify your computer’s registry keys.
How to modify your computer’s registry keys
1. Close Microsoft Lync and Microsoft Outlook first.
2. Click on Start, and type in:
“REGEDIT” (click on YES if there’ll be any confirmation prompt)
3. Navigate through this registry path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > IM Providers > DefaultIMApp – this registry key is the primary reason why your Microsoft Lync presence not updating. We need to change it’s key.
Right click on “DefaultIMApp”, then click on “Modify”
If you’re using Microsoft Lync 2010, change the Value data to “Communicator“, if user’s using Lync 2013, change the Value data to “Lync“.
- They’re different because executable file for Microsoft Lync 2010 is communicator.exe, while for Lync 2013 is Lync.exe
- The default Instant Messaging application has now been set up to Microsoft Lync
4. Don’t close the registry window yet, we need to modify other keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > IM Providers > Communicator > Right click on UpAndRunning > Modify > change the Value data to “2”
5. For the changes to take effect, we need to launch Microsoft Lync first, then launch Outlook. Done!
