Office file from SharePoint should work if the browser add ins are enabled. Check if Microsoft office add ins are enabled, by opening Internet Explorer > Click on Tools >Manage Add ons > and double check if the office plugins are checked or turned on.
If it’s still the same issue, there might be a corrupted Microsoft
office component that is corrupted, so kindly follow the steps on how to
resolve this:
1. Close all MS Office applications, and Internet Explorer.
2. Go to your MS Office directory folder
- For MS Office 2010 – 32 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
- For MS Office 2010 – 64 bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
- For MS Office 2013 – 32 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15 \
- For MS Office 2013 – 64 bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15
- Look for OWSSUPP.DLL file, rename it to: OWSSUPP.DLL.OLD
4. Run MS Office repair: Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Right click on Microsoft Office > Change > Repair
5. Once repair’s done, reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
6. The error when opening office file from SharePoint issue must be resolved.
