Failing software patches installation from Windows Update can degrade
the performance of your Windows 7 computer, since these Windows Updates
can replenish the components of your operating systems. So must be
alarmed if one of these software patches are not installing successfully
in your computer.
There are lots of error codes that would appear on your Windows
Update panel if one of the update is not installing, and one of the most
common error codes is the “Error Code 80070308″. This
code describes that software patches are failing due to a corrupted
Software Distribution folder in your system, so for us to fix this, we
need to recreate that corrupted folder.
Follow the steps below on how to troubleshoot this issue:
- Run MS Fix it for Windows Update (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7 )
- Go to Run by pressing Windows button + R, and paste this command: %windir%
- Look for this folder: SoftwareDistribution
- Rename that folder as SoftwareDistribution.old
- this would make your folder to be unrecognized by your system since it’s possibly corrupted. This will also be recreated automatically once renamed to .old file extension. - Open the registry editor by clicking on Start > Search for “Regedit”
- Navigate through this registry path: HKLM\Components
- Delete this key: “pendingrequired=1″
- Run the Windows update again, it must be installed
- Reboot when prompted so the changes will take effect.
Windows Update should now be installed in your computer seamlessly since registry keys has been corrected.
