I have been following the Samsung Galaxy Note series and so far, the least that I am excited of is this latest installment, the Galaxy Note 4. There are many reasons why I am not excited with the Galaxy Note 4, the top five reasons are these:
1. It's basically a Note 3. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has almost the same physical size and looks as that of the Note 3. As the budget-conscious techno buff that I am, getting a high end device will also give me +10 bragging rights. However, I am the type who does not want to flash my new things. I want people to notice it and say how fascinated they are to see the latest gadget on my hand, in this case, the Note 4. Since the device look almost the same as the Note 3, any untrained eye may mistake if for a Galaxy Note 3, a year-old clunky device.
2. No built-up hype on the product. Samsung has been known to be good marketers of phones. The line of Galaxy phones had been extensively marketed that people were all excited for the day of device announcement. However, Samsung's Unpacked event came in almost unannounced. Everyone was eyeing on Apple's September event when Unpacked was suddenly announced. Not that the event was a bad idea; in fact, I think it was good that they let it out ahead of Apple's event but the hype for Unpacked 2014 was too short.
3. It was announced together with a far more superior device, the Galaxy Note Edge. Good news for Samsung fans, Unpacked has announced the release of two new Notes: the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge. Everyone's eye was on the Note Edge as the latter one has a very unique distinction among mobile devices on the market. The Galaxy Note Edge has a sort of screen extension on its right-edge. This feature opens a lot of possibilities for new developments for the product.
4. Samsung Galaxy S6 will be out in a few months. One thing I hate about Samsung products is that they come in, at least, pairs per year. A Galaxy S and a Galaxy Note will be born every year. This means that I have less than half of the year of bragging about my Galaxy Note 4 before all attention will go to the Samsung Galaxy S6. I have with me a Galaxy S4, a Note 3 and an S5. And though Note 4 or Note Edge is such a tease, I may soon have my hand on them. I hate not being able to control myself.
5. Apple's phablet is luring me. The one thing that's keeping me from taking that Note Edge is Apple's September 9 event. Apple was very good in keeping the hype up and now all eyes are on the event. If Apple will, indeed, release a phablet then I may have to consider buying from them. However, if they can only  provide for an iPhone 6 for the moment, then I will get my hands on the Note Edge as soon as it will be available.
